Peter Lake - Managing Director

Peter Lake was appointed Managing Director of Sweet and Maxwell in January 2003, having previously been in charge of Thomson Legal & Regulatory's business development activities in Europe. During this time, he oversaw Thomson Legal & Regulatory’s expansion into The Netherlands, France and Germany. Before joining Thomson, Peter worked for Reed Elsevier and Pearson.

Ashley Doody - Technology Director

Ashley was appointed Technology Director in July 2006, having previously been Business Systems Manager for Sweet & Maxwell. In 2001, his role was expanded to include IT support in addition to business systems. Prior to joining Sweet & Maxwell, Ashley worked for Thomson Consulting for five years, providing fee based technology consultancy for Thomson businesses including Sweet & Maxwell, Compu-Mark, Derwent and Thomson Financial. Prior to joining Thomson Ashley was at Hoskyns, now known as Cap Gemini Ernst & Young.

Chris Elvin - Customer Operations Director

Chris was appointed Customer Operations Director in August 2006. He joined Sweet & Maxwell from Thomson Financial where he was SVP Finance Operations based in New York. In this role, Chris was responsible for the operational management of Thomson Financial's North American revenue accounting, billing and collection functions. Before joining Thomson, Chris worked in a number of finance and operational roles for Reuters and MMS International.

John Galvin - Finance Director

John joined Sweet & Maxwell in March 2003 from Cambridge BioTechnology Ltd where he worked as Financial Director, on a consultancy basis. Between 2000 and 2002, John was Director of Financial Planning & Control for ITV Digital where he enhanced understanding of company performance through greater integrity and transparency in reporting. Prior to this, he held senior positions within the finance departments of the BBC and P&O. John qualified as a chartered accountant with Coopers & Lybrand.

Dick Greener – Director of Legal Affairs

Dick was appointed Director of Rights Management in 1998. The Rights Unit provides and reviews contractual documentation for the business and offers training and advice on a wide range of legal issues. A Barrister of Grays Inn, Dick joined Sweet & Maxwell in 1981 as an Editor. In April 2003 he was appointed as an Expert Member to the 15-strong government Advisory Panel on Crown Copyright.

Hilary Lambert - Commercial Director

Hilary was appointed Commercial Director of Sweet & Maxwell in April 2007, having previously been Director of the Legal Print Business. She joined Sweet & Maxwell in 1995 as a Marketing Manager and later become Marketing Director. Before that she had been Director of Publications for Amnesty International and was also publishing manager for TFPL, a provider of services to the information profession. In her role as Commercial Director, Hilary is responsible for the commercial direction and product development strategy of Sweet & Maxwell in its core legal and compliance markets.

Kim Massana - Sales & Marketing Director

Kim was appointed Sales & Marketing Director in April 2007, having previously been Sales & Customer Services Director for Sweet & Maxwell. Before that he was UK Sales Director for Equifax PLC, where he held several key positions and developed considerable experience in integrating products into client side processes and in developing long-term relationships with customers. Prior to his time with Equifax, he was Consulting Director for AIS, Barcelona, a consulting firm specialising in risk modelling for financial institutions. In this new role, he will be responsible for aligning sales and marketing activity and for developing the sales and marketing strategies necessary to support the new products and services we are bringing to the market.

Mark Potter - Human Resources Director

Mark joined Sweet & Maxwell in June 2005 after completing interim HR assignments at both HSBC and Barclays. Prior to this he was the UK HR Director for Powwow Water, a subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa. Previously, he held a range of senior HR positions at Nokia. He began his career in Marketing, working first for Renault Trucks and then Lucas Industries.

Mark Seaman - Editorial & Production Director

Mark has been the Editorial and Production Director for Sweet & Maxwell since 2003. He manages the product delivery functions of the business in Print, CD Rom and Online (from editorial offices based in London, Yorkshire and the Netherlands) and is responsible for Sweet and Maxwell's content management strategy and environmental footprint. Previously Mark worked for LexisNexis (Butterworths) in the UK as Publishing Director (responsible for the LexisNexis online service in the UK), Business Operations Director and latterly as Marketing Director, specialising in branding and PR communications initiatives.

Louise Gillard - Marketing Director

Louise joined Sweet & Maxwell in July 2002, having previously worked in the Marketing Department for 8 years. Prior to that, she was Marketing Director at ABG Professional Information, responsible for strategic marketing planning and operational management for all ABG divisions.

Alina Lourie - Legal Online Business Unit Director

Alina is responsible for the overall vision, strategy, development, marketing and delivery of Sweet & Maxwell's legal online services. Promoted from Regulatory Business Development Director, Alina was also part of the initial project team responsible for creating Westlaw UK. Before joining Sweet & Maxwell, Alina worked as Marketing Director at the publishers Harper Collins and Macmillan Press. She graduated in Mathematics at Cambridge University before gaining an MSc in Industrial Sociology at Imperial College, London.

Milan Taylor - Compliance and Advisory Business Unit Director

Milan was appointed Compliance and Advisory Business Unit Director in January 2002 after previous service with Pira International and Haymarket Publishing.

Julie Stott – Business of Law Director

Julie Stott was appointed Director, Business of Law in July 2005 - a role created to define and lead the strategy and development of products and services aimed at helping legal professionals do business. Prior to this, Julie held a number of commercial management positions in the legal online area, including Director, Lawtel following the acquistion of Lawtel from Centaur Publishing in 2002. Julie's career at Sweet & Maxwell has spanned almost 17 years, during which time she has lead teams responsible for marketing and branding initiatives, corporate communications, product development and editorial.
