The Commentary on the UAE Arbitration Chapter is the first commentary of its kind in the English language. It is written by Dr. Gordon Blanke, one of the leading commentators and practitioners in arbitration in the Middle East today.
The Commentary on the UAE Arbitration Chapter is divided into two parts:
• Part I provides an introduction to the practice and procedure of UAE arbitration more generally, essentially focusing on arbitrations seated in the UAE, including more specifically mainland or onshore Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
• Part II provides and article-by-article commentary on the UAE Arbitration Chapter, the arbitration-specific provisions of the UAE Civil Procedures Code. The commentary is based on over 650 UAE court rulings relevant to arbitration.
The book also contains useful end matter, collating both primary and ancillary UAE arbitration legislation as well as secondary source material, such as a UAE enforcement matrix and UAE enforcement diagram to guide the reader through the processes of enforcement of arbitral awards in the UAE. A detailed index assists the reader in navigating the book with precision.
The book remains relevant despite the recent adoption of the UAE Federal Arbitration Law given in particular that the relevance of existing case law precedent under the UAE Arbitration Chapter survives under the new law. A supplement to the Commentary is currently under preparation, updating the text in relevant part to reflect the entry into force of the UAE Federal Arbitration Law.
