Understanding Criminal Law provides a broad perspective and general understanding of the legal principles on which criminal law is based. The work:
- Examines the purpose of criminal law and its rules
- Offers a detailed understanding of the rationale of the various offences and explores their relationship
- Evaluates and offers criticism of the substantive criminal law and, where necessary, suggests how it should be developed
