How do I know which contract I need?

A

If you are hiring a builder to work on your home renovation project and will be overseeing their work yourself, you will need the Building Contract, (Building Contract for a Home Owner/Occupier who has not appointed a consultant to oversee the work (HO/B) ).

If you are hiring a consultant, who will deal directly with the builder on your behalf, you will need the Building Contract and CONSULTANCY Agreement Pack, (Building Contract and CONSULTANCY Agreement for a Home Owner/Occupier (HO/C) and (HO/CA) ).

Where can the contracts be used?

A

The contracts are suitable for use in England and Wales. A version suitable for use in Scotland is published by the Scottish Building Contract Committee Limited (SBCC).

Will my builder be happy to use this contract?

A

Yes, JCT Contracts are well known throughout the construction industry for their unbiased contracts and have a reputation that your contractor will recognise and trust.

What happens if I change my mind about something after we have signed the contract?

A

You have the right to cancel the CONSULTANCY agreement or the building contract within seven days of signing it. There is a cancellation form at the back of each document.

I will need a receipt for my contract purchase, how can I get one?

A

You will receive an order confirmation email that can be used a VAT receipt.

Will the site accept my credit card if I live outside the UK?

Yes. We accept VISA credit/debit, Mastercard and American Express.

Is my computer compatible with JCT Home Owner Contracts?

A

The contracts are for use on desktop computers only and not compatible with mobile or tablet devices. If you have a laptop that can also be used as a tablet, the contract will only be accessible when it is in use as a laptop.

JCT Home owner Contracts are Compatible with Windows 7 upwards and Mac OS 10.10 (Yosemite) or greater.

How will I receive the contract?

A

Once you have been through the checkout process and your payment details have been approved, click the download link to activate and then download your contract/s. The download link(s) will also be e-mailed to you.

You will be sent a ZIP file which you should open to view the PDF contracts.

Please note that you can only download your contract/s from the link/s sent to you a maximum of three times.

I don't have the software to open the contract PDF

You can download Adobe Acrobat Reader for free here:

Please note: Adobe Reader must be used to open your contract. Opening the contract using a different PDF reader will corrupt your contract.

Some computers such as Apple Macs have default PDF readers built in which will appear as the primary reader for your contract. Please ensure you prompt the contract to open in Adobe reader only.

I have downloaded the contract but I can't open it

Check that you have Adobe Reader installed correctly.

You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader DC XI or later installed. You can download the latest version of Adobe Reader here:

Oops! I have deleted the contract I downloaded by accident

A

You can download your PDF contract/s from the download link provided in the order confirmation a maximum of three times.

If you have exceeded this limit, please email our support team providing your name, date of purchase and order number from the order confirmation email you received when you purchased the contract.

Can I buy printed versions of the contracts in a shop if I prefer not to buy online?

A

Yes, the contracts are available to buy in print from stockists around the country, visit the jctcontracts.com to find the one closest to you.

Can I use the contract more than once?

A

No, you can only use one contract per contractor. Draft contracts cannot be used for the tendering process with multiple contractors.

Our terms and conditions strictly prevent you from using the contract more than once. Only the purchaser can use the contract, you may not give the contract to anyone else to use for their project.

If you want to show the contractor the contract before finalising you can save and print draft versions of the contract. Fill in your name and address and that of your builder on page 2 of the contract. You will then need to check the box on page 6 that you are using the contract for one project, save the file and click the Print Draft button.

Can I use the contract for anything else?

A

This contract is designed for use by the private consumer engaging a builder. It is not suitable for other purposes.

Can I get a refund on my Homeowner Contracts?

A

There are no refunds for the Home Owner Contracts. If you have any problems downloading your Home Owner Contracts email us at jct.support@thomsonreuters.com

Can I print a draft of my contract before finalising it?

A

Yes! If you want to print and share a draft of your contract prior to finalising it, you will need to complete Page 2 of the document fully, and without using abbreviations.

You will then need to check the box on Page 6 to confirm that you are using the contract for one project only, and then save to your designated destination, e.g. your desktop or USB stick.

Click the Print Draft button to print your watermarked draft contract.
